Interreg STIPP Project SHELLWEPRINT
3D-Printed Objects for Circular Urban Design
Our new Interreg STIPP project, SHELLWEPRINT, brings together material innovation and 3D printing to turn local eggshell waste into functional urban design.
Urban spaces are increasingly in need of sustainable, climate-resilient green solutions, but traditional street furniture and planters often rely on resource-intensive, virgin materials. At the same time, massive amounts of eggshell waste generated by food processors are still treated as low-value by-products.
To tackle both challenges at once, we officially kicked off SHELLWEPRINT—an innovation project under the Interreg STIPP framework, carried out alongside our cross-border partners Layer Performance and BAU-Regain.

Official kick-off of the SHELLWEPRINT project with our cross-border partners Layer Performance and BAU-Regain.
"By combining our material innovations with advanced 3D-printing and circular design, local biowaste is turned into tangible, functional elements that bring nature back into our cities."
Supported by the Interreg Meuse-Rhine (NL-BE-DE) program through the STIPP Instrument with €299,910.80 in EU co-financing, we are developing a fully integrated, cross-border value chain.
Local Impact in the Meuse-Rhine Region
By linking food-industry side streams directly to urban infrastructure, SHELLWEPRINT creates a local, closed-loop economy.
Instead of exporting raw biowaste or relying on fossil-based plastics and heavy concrete for outdoor design, we process local eggshells right here in the Meuse-Rhine region. The result is a series of lightweight, durable, and fully bio-based products that help cool urban environments, support biodiversity, and make public spaces greener.
Project Partners & Collaboration
SHELLWEPRINT thrives on cross-border expertise across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany:
EGGXPERT (Netherlands): Lead partner providing eggshell upcycling technology and material formulation.
Layer Performance (Germany): Specialized in large-format 3D printing and additive manufacturing optimization.
BAU-Regain (Belgium): Experts in eco-design, circular architecture, and modular outdoor solutions.
Together, we are bridging the gap between bio-based raw materials and practical, beautifully designed urban architecture.
